2016 Scooters Canada Sponsorship Drive

Posted by Myles Cullen on

The sport of scootering isn't slowing down any time soon. Every park in every city across our great land is jam-packed with riders of all skills levels and all ages. Scootering has ushered in an entirely new age of action sport athletes. And what athletes they are!

In my entire 20+ years in action sports retail, I have never seen such a rapid improvement in the "average" rider. When you come to our competitions, there are more people riding at the Pro level than ever before. The Amateur ranks are just teeming with guys who will clearly be moving to pro in the very near future. The skills witnessed in the Beginner categories would have put the hurt on many an Amateur entrant when we started hosting scooter competitions several years ago.

The motivation of riders to improve seems endless. The cameraderie of the guys in the park - pushing each other to new heights and breaking new ground, inspires those around them. The drive and passion that so many demonstrate through their videos is nothing short of stunning.

And this is where Team SC comes in. This Team represents the apex of athlete development and gives people across the country a collection of riders to inspire them to reach their own goals. The beauty of sport is it's purity of mission: The harder you work, the more you practice, the more you focus...the more you can achieve.

In our view, the benefits of sport transcend sport itself as these same lessons are applicable to every aspect of our lives. The only limits in your life are the ones you imagine. The only walls are the limits to your vision.

For 2016, our Team is returning to our our roots and I am thrilled to announce that we are, once again, supporting the up-and-coming Amateur level rider. There are two spots available in our Amateur squad.

The ideal candidate demonstrates extraordinary potential for improvement and already possesses impressive skill. Young riders are especially important for this crew as they will potentially fill our Pro team ranks in the future.

There are no specific tricks required for acceptance onto our teams. We receive dozens of emails a week asking if this or that specific trick is a requirement. It doesn't work that way: We are looking for the total package - someone who can ride a variety of features/terrain and work into a run a range of different skills. The more different things you can do the better.

This year we are recruiting only two pro level riders and are looking to strengthen our existing core team with riders demonstrating a true commitment to ambassadorship. It's not enough to be a good rider, you must be a leader in your community.

For both Pro and Amateur riders alike the ability to regularly produce content is absolutely critical.

If you can't commit to producing photos and videos on a regular basis, please do not submit a video. If you don't have access to the necessary equipment (or people) to help you provide us with content, please do not submit a video.

Consider sponsorship as a job: It's your responsibility to introduce scootering to the broader public, to teach little rippers how to nail their first bar spin at your local park, and to produce content for your sponsor.

I hope this post helps you all understand what is involved with being a sponsored rider, why we do what we do, and why it is such a privilege to ride for any company willing to support you and the sport you love.

And to all our Team riders past and present: Thanks for all of your contributions to the sport and SC. We wouldn't be where we are today without your contributions.

Now have at it! Get your clips together, hit the local parks to get any fresh content that you need, and get posting to our Facebook page. Videos must be submitted by March 1st, 2016. In the interest of fairness, late submissions are not eligible. Our 2016 Team will be announced on March 6th. Good luck everyone!

If you have any questions, please post them to our Facebook page or email us. Comments to this blog posted CANNOT receive a response.
